Your First Reptile

Learn how to create detailed reptile profiles, add photos, and manage your collection effectively.

Creating a Reptile Profile

Each reptile in Herp-Ops has its own profile with comprehensive tracking:

Required Information

  • Name - The name you've given your reptile
  • Species - Common or scientific name (e.g., "Ball Python", "Pogona vitticeps")

Optional Information

  • Morph - Color morph or pattern variant
  • Date of Birth - Enables age calculation and growth tracking
  • Acquisition Date - When you got this reptile
  • Sex - Male, Female, or Unknown
  • Notes - Any additional information (breeder, traits, behavior notes)

Adding Photos

Photos are a great way to track visual changes and create a record of your reptile:

  1. Navigate to your reptile's detail page
  2. Scroll to the Photos section
  3. Click Upload Photo
  4. Select an image from your device
  5. Add a caption (optional) to note what the photo shows

📸 Photo Tips

  • • Use natural lighting for accurate color representation
  • • Take photos after sheds to track pattern changes
  • • Include a size reference (ruler, hand) for growth tracking
  • • Take consistent angles (top-down, side profile) for comparisons

Default Feeding Preferences

You can set default feeding preferences for each reptile to save time when logging meals:

  • Default Feeder Type - e.g., "Crickets", "Dubia Roaches", "Frozen/Thawed Mice"
  • Default Feeder Size - e.g., "Adult", "Medium", "Fuzzy"
  • Default Quantity - Typical amount per feeding

These defaults will auto-fill when you log a feeding, but you can always override them for a specific meal.

Editing and Deleting

To edit a reptile's information, click the Edit button on their detail page. Make your changes and click Save.

To delete a reptile (and all associated data), click the Delete button at the bottom of the edit form.

⚠️ Deletion Warning

Deleting a reptile is permanent and will remove all associated feeding logs, health records, weight entries, photos, and schedules. This action cannot be undone.
