Feeding Schedules

Set up automated feeding reminders and track your reptiles' meals to ensure consistent care and monitor feeding patterns.

Creating a Feeding Schedule

Feeding schedules help you stay on track with regular feedings and alert you when a meal is due or overdue.

  1. Go to your reptile's detail page
  2. Scroll to the Feeding Schedules section
  3. Click Add Schedule
  4. Fill in the schedule details:
    • Frequency - How often to feed (in days)
Examples: Every 1 day, Every 3 days, Every 7 days
    • Notes (optional) - Feeder type, size, quantity, or special instructions
  5. Click Save

Understanding Schedule Status

Each schedule displays a status badge indicating the current state:

  • OVERDUE - Feeding is past due. Action needed!
  • DUE SOON - Feeding is due within 1 day
  • UPCOMING - Feeding is due in 2-3 days
  • ON TRACK - Next feeding is more than 3 days away

💡 How It Works

The schedule tracks when you last fed your reptile (based on feeding logs) and calculates when the next feeding is due. If you haven't fed yet, it uses the schedule creation date as the starting point.

Logging a Feeding

When you feed your reptile, log it to update the schedule automatically:

  1. From the reptile's detail page, scroll to Feeding Logs
  2. Click Log Feeding
  3. Enter the details:
    • Date - When the feeding occurred (defaults to today)
    • Feeder Type - What you fed (e.g., "Crickets", "Mice")
    • Feeder Size - Size of the food item
    • Quantity - How many items
    • Notes (optional) - Appetite, behavior, or any issues
  4. Click Save

The schedule will automatically update to reflect the new "last fed" date and calculate the next due date.

Reminders Dashboard

The Reminders page (app.herpops.com/reminders) shows all your feeding schedules across all reptiles in one place.

Schedules are sorted by urgency:

  • Overdue schedules appear first (red)
  • Then due soon (orange)
  • Then upcoming (blue)
  • Finally, on-track schedules (green)

This dashboard is your central hub for daily care tasks - check it each morning to see what needs attention.

Activating and Deactivating Schedules

You can temporarily pause a schedule without deleting it:

  • Active - Schedule is running and will show alerts
  • Inactive - Schedule is paused (useful for seasonal feeding changes, brumation, illness, etc.)

To deactivate a schedule, edit it and uncheck the Active checkbox. Inactive schedules won't appear in the Reminders dashboard.

Editing and Deleting Schedules

To edit a schedule, click the Edit button on the schedule card. You can change the frequency, notes, or active status.

To delete a schedule, click Delete. The feeding logs will remain - only the schedule is removed.

🦎 Example Schedule

Reptile: Smaug (Bearded Dragon)
Frequency: Every 1 day
Notes: "20-30 medium dubia roaches, salad on the side"
Last Fed: Today
Next Due: Tomorrow
Status: ON TRACK

Tips for Success

  • Be specific in notes - Include feeder type, size, and quantity for quick reference
  • Log feedings promptly - This keeps your schedule accurate
  • Adjust frequency as needed - Reptile appetites change with age, temperature, and season
  • Use inactive status wisely - Great for brumation periods or when an animal is off food
